Ravindra Jadgar shared his initial reactions after being named newcomer Chennai Super King (CSK) Captain Thursday Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. Saying he feels good, the all-rounder admits he has big shoes to fill.
The Chennai-based team confirmed that MS Dhoni has handed over the team’s captain to Jadeja.
In response to the big news, the new captain said in a video shared on the team’s official Twitter account:
“It feels good. At the same time I know I have to wear big boots. Mahi bhai has left a huge legacy so I need to carry it forward so hopefully…”
The 33-year-old claims he is not under too much pressure and seeks Dhoni’s help when he takes on challenging roles. He added:
“I don’t need to worry too much because he’s here. Whatever I have to ask, I’ll definitely go to him. He’ll be my first choice. He was and still is. So I’m not too worried. Thanks All the best wishes and love. Keep supporting us.”
Previously, CSK gave details of the captain’s change in an article on its official website, writing:
“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of the Chennai Super Kings and has chosen Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will be only the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent the Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond.”
Under Dhoni, CSK won the IPL title for the fourth time last season, but speculation is mounting that he may decide to step down as captain.

According to Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan, Dhoni has been considering the decision and believes it is the right time.

“MS Dhoni is thinking about it. He feels it is the right time to hand over the captaincy to Jaddu (Jadeja). He feels that Jaddu is also in the prime of his career and now is the ideal time for him to lead CSK. What will happen to the team The good has to be (in) his mind.”
Dhoni leads CSK in 213 matches (IPL + CLT20), of which the team has won 130 and lost 81. In addition to four IPL titles, the 40-year-old has led CSK to two CLT20 titles.
