On Sunday, May 8, 2022, Mrs. Betty Anne Houck Hawkins, 87, traveled to Amorem Hospice in Hudson to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Caldwell County on July 25, 1934, to the late William L. and Maud Sudres Hawke. Her three brothers also died before her. Ned Hawke, Harold Hawke and David Hawke.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is an amazing Christian lady whose greatest characteristic is loving everyone she touches. Betty is an avid fan of Carolina Taher and loves watching basketball. She also enjoys traveling with her family, enjoys camping, and is a member of the Blue Ridge Rolling Sams, where she and her husband form lifelong friendships with fellow campers. Mrs Hawkins is an excellent caregiver for her grandchildren and she enjoys children’s ministry at the church’s nursery. She is a loyal member of the First Baptist Church of Hudson.
Her memories include her husband of 68 years, Hurley M. Hawkins; a son, Barry Hawkins and Hudson’s wife Kelly, two daughters; Donna Hoyle and husband Bill of Morganton and Leslie Fleming of Lenoir , an older sister; Linda Thornberg of Hudson. She also has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel, hosted by Pastor Wade Dellinger and Pastor Jim Hamby. The detention will take place immediately at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Families will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the funeral from 1:00-2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requested that donations be sent to Amorem Hospice, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
