A sweater with liquid metal alloy tubes could charge wearable electronics
May 13, 2022
A sweater embeds a coil filled with liquid metal that can wirelessly charge wearable or portable electronics, including medical sensors, exercise trackers and smartphones.
Wireless charging technology is gaining popularity, with the potential to be built into clothing to charge small electronic devices while wearing. However, this potential has yet to be realized because wireless chargers generate electromagnetic radiation that can damage human tissue after prolonged exposure at such close distances.
