Strawweight is arguably the most stacked division in ONE Championship, and Robin Catalan want to go to a party.
If the Filipino fighter beats Indonesian rising star Eliipitua Siregar in ONE 157: Petchmorakot vs Vienot on May 20, he could well be in the top five.
Catalonia said in an interview with ONE Championship that his plan is to join the top five in strawweight and even have a rematch with the man he has already beaten. That man was fourth-place strawweight contender Gustavo Barratt.
Robin Catalan said:
“He’s in the top five and I want that. If he wants, I’ll let him rematch with me so I can prove my victory wasn’t a fluke.”
Catalonia are already proud of their victory over Ballat, who brought down the Cuban fighter with a brutal head kick in the second round in November 2019.
However, Bharat moved into the top five of the strawweight rankings after defeating Ryūren Sawada and former ONE Strawweight World Champion Saruta Yosuke.
despite this, Catalan Wants to take tough climbs and prove he’s one of the best fighters in the division.
“I want to prove that I’m among the best. I need to focus on my game plan and execute it perfectly so I can have a chance to try.”
If Robin Catalunya beats Siregar, he could make a big leap
While Robin Catalans are watching from the outside, victory over the dangerous Siregar will give the Filipinos a big boost in stock.
Siregar got off to a great start in his ONE Champions League run, going 3-0, and all those victories came through completion. Of his four wins in the promotion, only one made it to the second round.
However, the Catalans are no strangers to finishing opponents.
“Ilongo” has 10 victories in his career, 6 of them by knockout or submission. The six completions were also split equally, with three submissions and three eliminations.
His most spectacular finale, though, might just have been his header out of Bharat in front of home fans in the Philippines in November 2019. He seemed to want to repeat the result.
