Following Kohli’s dismissal with 16 in their second ODI against England at Lord’s on Thursday (July 14), Azam shared his encouragement for the former India captain on his official Twitter account word.
Posting a photo of himself with the Indian star batsman, he wrote:
“This will pass too. Stay strong #ViratKohli.”
Kohli responded to the viral tweet that received positive reviews from Azam, commenting:
“Thank you. Keep shining and rising. I wish you all the best 👏.”
Earlier in the day, the 33-year-old shared a philosophical tweet as pressure mounted on him due to his poor performance in international cricket. He poses in front of an artwork with two wings that reads:
“What if I fall… oh dear, what if you fly.”
The full-blown cricketer shared the cryptic post with a one-word headline:
On the ongoing tour, Kohli has been terrible in England. So far, he has scored 11, 20, 1, 11 and 16 across the three formats.
“I know what a player goes through at a stage like this” – Babar Azam on Kohli tweet
At a press conference ahead of Pakistan’s first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, Azam was asked about his commendable gesture in support of Kohli on Twitter.
Sharing his thoughts, he explained:
“As a player, I know you can go through a phase like this and I know what a player goes through in a phase like this. At that point, you need support. I just tweeted thinking it would only provide some support. He is One of the best players.”
Azam also backed the Indian batsman to overcome the poor form he has faced over the past few seasons. He commented:
“He’s played a lot of cricket and he knows how to get out of these situations. It takes time and it’s great if you support the players.”
Kohli is likely to feature in his third ODI match against England at Manchester’s Old Trafford on Sunday (July 17).
The batsmen have been rested for the upcoming West Indies Tour, which will include three ODIs and five T20Is.
