Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent a letter Monday to New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, inviting them to visit the southern Texas border to witness the humanitarian crisis firsthand .
While Adams and Bowser are concerned about transporting about 100 people a day north from the southern border, Texas receives thousands a day, Abbott said.
Local communities cannot afford record illegal entry into Texas from more than 150 countries, fentanyl enough to kill everyone in America, and record-breaking crime resulting from President Joe Biden’s “reckless open border policy” [that] Mass immigration and transnational crime have been invited into the Texas community,” he said.
In a letter to the mayor on Monday, he wrote: “Your recent interest in this historic and preventable crisis is a welcome development, especially as the president and his administration have failed to show their actions. Any remorse, and no desire to resolve the situation on his own.
“I invite you to visit our border areas to witness the increasing urgency of the dire situation firsthand and to meet with local officials like you who realize this matter deserves immediate federal action. I also ask you to join me in requesting President Biden secures the border and ends this catastrophic crisis.”
His invitation came after mayors accused him of a humanitarian crisis facing their cities, as thousands of people who entered the U.S. illegally were sent to New York City by the Biden administration and Washington, D.C., by Abbott.
“As you know, our country’s southern border has become a humanitarian and security crisis,” he wrote. “This crisis was created by President Biden and requires immediate and decisive action to stop it. As the governor of a southern border state, I have witnessed record highs of illegal border crossings over and over again since President Biden took office. In the absence of federal action I have deployed unprecedented resources to prevent, deter, and deter illegal immigration and transnational criminal activity that threatens our citizens. Texas has spent more than $3 billion over the past 18 months to reduce our size The devastation felt by small communities.”

While mayors have publicly complained about strained resources, the Texas legislature allocated $4 billion for border security efforts and passed laws to make it easier to arrest and prosecute people and drug smugglers.
The state arrests and imprisons criminal trespassers and foreigners who commit state crimes. Abbott has signed bills penalizing human trafficking and those who manufacture and distribute fentanyl.
Texas also began building a border wall for the first time in U.S. history, and is the only state to have reached an agreement with the governors of four Mexican states to strengthen border security measures.
Abbott has issued disaster declarations for crime-ridden counties sparked by Biden’s border policies, issued an executive order to stop criminal activity, and authorized the Texas National Guard and DPS to illegally enter Texas. deportation of aliens and criminal aliens to the border. He also created strike teams to crack down on semi-trucks and other commercial vehicles entering Texas from Mexico.
In the past 18 months, no mayor or governor has implemented Abbott’s policies, which he believes should not be implemented if Biden is doing his job and securing the border.
The mayors have yet to respond to his invitation, but White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre told reporters last week that the bus plan was “disgraceful.”
“What the Republicans are doing, the way they are interfering in the process and using immigration as a political pawn is wrong,” she said.
Abbott sent people to “big cities” “on purpose” and he “took them as political views”. …there is a proper process that we should follow. There is a legal process and they should follow it. “
But Abbott argued, “Unfortunately, President Biden and his ‘border czar’ vice president [Kamala] Harris refused to see the crisis firsthand — knowingly ignorant of the crisis they created. “
Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas recently claimed that the southern border was “secure,” which Abbott said was false; it was “neither secure nor secure, as you can all attest.”
“As law enforcement officers at the Texas-Mexico border respond to thousands of illegal border crossings every day, where Texans and all Americans are risking their lives, this crisis demands the attention of more than just a Biden administration, which That’s the responsibility. Protect the border, but protect the leaders across the country,” he argued.
