indian team Under Rohit Sharma, he has excelled in T20I cricket and his captaincy has been almost spotless so far.Men in Blue recently entered Super Stage 4 2022 Asian Cup Victory over Pakistan and Hong Kong is definitely a favorite to win the mainland championship.
India are also among the favourites for the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. Most teams are close to finalizing their ICC line-ups, with the hosts having named a strong 15-man squad. Most of India’s 15 nations have chosen themselves, even though there are still some places up for grabs.
Amazingly, India has reached a place where some of their longest-serving players may not be ideal candidates for the T20 World Cup. Former captain Virat Kohli’s attacking game against spin has soured to such an extent that some questioned his position on the wing, while KL Rahul adamantly refused to change his outdated method of hitting the ball in the shortest format.
In this article, we try to rank the three most important players in Indian T20I cricket. The player’s skill set, as well as the availability of substitutes, are taken into account.
#3 Jasprit Bumrah
It might be surprising to see Jasprit Bumrah at number three on this list. Undoubtedly one of the best full-format bowlers in the world, the speeder deserves his gold in T20 cricket. Guaranteed to have the financial advantage and wicket threat at any stage of the innings, his unparalleled strength in death has won many matches in India over the years.
Bumrah is facing a race against time to adapt to the T20 World Cup, having been ruled out of the Asian Cup due to injury. His skills will be crucial for Australia’s Blue Jackets, especially with other seasoned strikers such as Mohammad Shami no longer in the T20I.
Bumrah is invaluable to the Indian team, even if they have some capable death bowlers like Harshal Patel (who is also recovering from injury) and Arshdeep Singh. The four he throws simply cannot be replaced by any other player, but the latter two are arguably more important.
#2 Surya Kumar Yadav
It may seem odd to claim that a man who has played only 25 T20Is in his career is India’s second most important player, but that is who Suryakumar Yadav is. With a 39.89 scoring average and 177.52 strikeout rate in those games, amassing 758 runs, the stylish right-hander is the team’s best player of all seasons and situations.
Suryakumar has thrived in T20I cricket, playing a ton of key roles and even converting some of his starts into big scores. He has been able to fight all types of bowling from the word “start” even though his peers have struggled to hit the ball. Among the top four who struggled to put his foot on the pedal to resist spin, the 31-year-old stood out for his striking range and deft wrist.
India simply cannot live without Surya Kumar now. He’s the guy who injects the most momentum in the game, he’s someone who can be depended on and his game can play well against any opponent. Other mid-level batsmen such as Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson have their own strengths, but unlike Suryakumar, they have distinct weaknesses. SKY is irreplaceable.
#1 Hardik Pandya
Is there anyone who doubts who will be at the top of the list? Hardik Pandya has quickly established himself as the most important player in Indian T20I cricket since returning from injury as captain of the Gujarat Titans after winning the Indian Premier League title.
No one in India can bring it to the negotiating table as Hardik has done. Four pitches at different stages of the innings, accurate short bowling produces wickets when pitches are less useful, electric field around the park, random six overs, great spin and speed on both sides wicket – At 28, he can do it all.
The closest India has come to replacing Hadik is Deepak Chahar or Shadur Thakur, but the batsmen of the two are not even on the same planet. In recent form, even their bowling balls may not be close. The Man in Blue needs to wrap Hardik in lint and treat him very carefully, because without him, the T20I side would collapse immediately.
