The Republicans’ abortion ban is a wake-up call for parents of Florida female student-athletes who are required to report their menstrual history to play sports. With third parties having access to that information and all forms subject to subpoenas, parents and doctors are raising the alarm.
“This information is reported on the athlete’s annual physique form, which must be filled out by a doctor and turned over to the school’s athletic director,” Times Union Reports (subscribers only).
“These questions have been asked students across the state for 20 years, most often in writing, but this fall parents and physicians are starting to raise red flags when some districts submit forms to digital platforms held by third parties…all Forms – whether paper or digital – are subject to subpoenas.”

“Abortion rights advocates and concerned parents have cautioned about these issues and how they may be used, given reproductive privacy and parents’ rights to children’s data,” palm beach post Report.
They dug into it and noticed that these questions have been asked for 20 years and marked as “optional”.
The issue is:
When was your first period?
When was your last period?
How much time do you usually have from the beginning of a period to
How many periods did you have last year?
What was the longest interval between menstrual periods last year?
But they noted that in Florida, unlike other states, “all of this medical data is then handed over to the athlete’s school.”
Why does this data have to be turned over to the school in the first place? In a post-Roy situation, no parent would be happy with it.
Republicans have always called themselves “parent meeting” While I haven’t heard anyone use the term other than those who pay to promote them, they’ve successfully weaponized fictional demons to scare parents into voting for them. Ironically, one of their big pushes is “school choice.”
The conservative Heritage Foundation touted Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ “Parent Party” business as he won the race by pushing for school choice.
School choice widens inequalities, Naturally, Republicans are in favor.
Putting female student-athletes in the predicament of being subpoenaed for information about their period is an abhorrent attack on freedom.
Parents will draw parents’ deep concern for their children.
