This Los Angeles Angels are bringing back their interim manager Phil Nevin to manage the club’s 2023 season. Nevin replaces Joe Maddon, who was fired by the team midway through the season. The two sides reached a one-year deal on Wednesday.
Before Madden was fired, Nevin was the third base coach for the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels are 46-60 since taking over. They were officially eliminated from the playoffs in mid-September. This season has been one to forget, but the team wanted to see what Nevin could do in the offseason to prepare.
Los Angeles Angels fans weren’t too pleased with the news. They didn’t believe Phil Nevin was the right person for the job. He has yet to prove he has what it takes to turn the organization around.
Fans are hoping to leave Nevin this offseason, or at least return him to coaching third base. They want organizations to look for a manager who can bring real commitment to the team, better than their record suggests.
“Can’t believe Ohtani chose to play for this team, what a waste” one fan cried.
“Hahahahahaha. Disband this franchise. New name, new city,” suggested another fan.
Some fans thought the team wasn’t serious as it entered the 2023 season. They feel the Los Angeles Angels are going to waste another year Mike Trout and Otani Shohei‘s business. Fans don’t want to see the duo miss the playoffs again next year.
Los Angeles Angels need to get serious or let Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani go
The lack of competitiveness of the Los Angeles Angels is scary not only for Los Angeles fans, but for baseball fans in general. MLB fans have yet to see Shohei Ohtani play under the brightest lights of the postseason. Arguably one of the best players in baseball right now, he needs to play in October.
The Angels have two MVP award winners. It doesn’t make much sense why they keep sucking. Trout and Otani bring the level of play to the team on a daily basis that should exceed the winning record below .500.
MLB fans should see this duo compete in the playoffs all the time. When Trout and Daegu are both playing at the elite level, the Angels need to be serious and competitive.
