On Tuesday (November 22), Manchester United stated that Ronaldo’s contract was terminated by mutual agreement. Ronaldo also posted on his social media, thanking the fans for their support, and revealed that it is time to seek new challenges. The decision comes days after the Portuguese gave Piers Morgan an explosive interview. In the interview, Ronaldo slammed the lack of growth at the club and claimed that Eric ten Hager disrespected him.
Enrique commented on Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United in an interview with the media ahead of Spain’s 2022 World Cup opener against Costa Rica.
The Spaniard admitted being surprised by the decision and urged Ronaldo and United to explain themselves. The ex-Barcelona manager said (via World A Coruña):
“I was surprised that Cristiano left Manchester United, I saw him at dinner now and I was surprised. But I can’t assess because I don’t have all the information. It would be nice if both Manchester United and Cristiano said something.”
In his second spell at Old Trafford, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored 27 goals and provided five assists in 54 appearances for the Red Devils.
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney not surprised by Cristiano Ronaldo exit
Former Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has admitted he is saddened but not surprised Ronaldo is leaving Old Trafford. The former England international claims Ronaldo will never find his way back to Manchester United after an interview with Piers Morgan, adding that it was all for the better.
Speaking about Sports 18, Rooney said (via hindustan times):
“It’s sad. Once he’s done with the interviews and how he’s attacked the club, there’s no choice. I don’t think there’s a choice. It’s a pity because he’s been a servant of United. He’s obviously still a very good player. I don’t think he’s the 23-year-old now. That’s probably the best thing… for Cristiano now, the only purpose is to focus on the World Cup.”
Ronaldo also criticized Rooney in an interview. The ex-Real Madrid man claims his former Manchester United team-mates were jealous of his career and his looks in his 30s. Ronaldo also labeled him a rat and declared he was not a friend.
