Rockhampton Regional Council will start roadworks next week along Main Street from Twigg Street to Denning Street.
Infrastructure committee member Alan Smith said the works included replacement of some curbs and access roads, minor pavement repairs and asphalt overlay.
“It’s a high-traffic area, especially during school and school hours, and it’s important that the council takes on these jobs,” Cr Smith said.
“During the project, traffic in both directions on Main Street will remain the same, but there will be very limited or no parking on Main Street.
“At various times during construction, Twigg Street, Davidson Street, Stumm Street and Denning Street will not be able to exit onto Main Street.
“While the shutdown is in effect, flags and detours will be set.
“We ask the public to follow these detours and not to park their vehicles on the road while works are being carried out.
“Please be aware of staff doing this work and be careful in the area.”
Divisional MP Donna Kirkland said the area was frequently used and had residential, school and commercial traffic.
“It’s great to see this high-usage area being renewed,” said the Kirkland councilman.
“There will be some disruption to parking during the works, however, our crews will work to keep both lanes clear while the upgrades are carried out.
“I know local users in the area will be happy to see these upgrades in action.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we carry out roadworks.”
Work will start on November 28 and is expected to take 12 working weeks to complete, depending on weather and ground conditions.
