Ex-England international Glenn Johnson believes Chelsea Must be kicking myself for not signing one of the breakout stars of the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in the summer, Josco Gwadiol.
The Croatia international was linked with a move to the Blues in the summer, but a deal didn’t materialize. The RB Leipzig defender has now caught the attention of Europe’s biggest teams thanks to his stellar performances at the World Cup.
According to Foot Mercato, Bayern Munich is the latest club to show interest in Gvardio, along with Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United.
Johnson, who represented the pensioner between 2003 and 2007, has said his former club made a mistake in not signing Gvardio in the summer. The Brit told GG Recon:
“They could have quietly signed him last summer and now he’s been doing so well at the World Cup and all eyes are on him. With Chelsea not getting the deal done, his performance will wake up a lot of other clubs, they Didn’t realize how good he was. I’m absolutely sure Chelsea will blame themselves and they will have a much harder task signing him now.”
The 20-year-old Gvardio has scored 1 goal in 19 appearances for Leipzig this season. His deal with the club will run until June 2027.

Messi, 35, played against Qatar’s World Cup’s most impressive centre-back, Gwadior. Their battle was decisively won in the 69th minute.
Messi received the ball just past the center line and began to dribble along the right. Gvardio stepped in quickly but failed to deprive the Argentina captain of control as he broke through the final third.
Just outside the box, Messi used his explosiveness and deft changes of direction to kill off Chelsea’s target before passing the ball from the touchline to his strike partner Alvarez.
The Manchester City man tripled Argentina’s advantage with a first-time finish. La Albiceleste now awaits the winner of Sunday’s (Dec. 18) final between France and Morocco, while Gvardiol and Co. will take on the losers of that match a day earlier in a third-place playoff.
