Maine State Police said officers had responded to more than a dozen crashes caused by snow and black ice on the Maine Turnpike as of Friday morning.
Only minor injuries were reported.

A winter storm warning has been issued for the mountains as snowfall could reach 15 inches or more. A winter storm warning was also issued Saturday afternoon for Inland York, Inland Cumberland, Kennebec and Androscoggin counties, with up to a foot of snow expected.
Snowfall totals remain somewhat uncertain on the coast, with winter forecasts calling for 2 inches to 7 inches of snow. The large range is due to multiple alternating rain and snow.
