Zion Williamson has been ruled out by the New Orleans Pelicans because he complies with the NBA’s health and safety protocols. “Zanos” has missed five games this season and should miss a few more, starting with the game against the San Antonio Spurs.
He is expected to miss at least two games as he tries to clear the league of Covid measures. He could return when New Orleans hosts the Minnesota Timberwolves on Dec. 28.
The former NBA All-Star was in incredible form throughout December. He’s averaging 28.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game this month.
The New Orleans Pelicans are on a season-high four-game losing streak, and their slump could extend without Williamson and Brandon Ingram. Ingram has been sidelined for some time due to a bruised left big toe.
Without the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Najee Marshall, Larry Nance Jr. (if he plays) and Garrett Temple likely would have seen more playing time.
Meanwhile, Kristaps Porzingis’ status for the Washington Wizards tonight is still up in the air. He has questions about his team’s game against the Utah Jazz tonight. Porzingis also missed the Wizards’ 113-110 win over the Phoenix Suns last Tuesday.
The Wizards ended a humiliating 10-game losing streak against the Suns. They will find it harder to maintain momentum without the lanky former NBA All-Star. After playing in just 17 games last season, Porzingis has played in 29 of the Wizards’ 32 games.
Porzingis’ absence will be a major blow to the franchise, as he had a better 2017-18 season than his lone NBA All-Star season. He averaged 22.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.0 blocks per game.
If Kristaps Porzingis remains sidelined, Daniel Gafford is expected to start again at center.

If he’s absent again, his return should be quick. If Sexton remains sidelined, Malik Beasley, Nickle Alexander-Walker and Talen Horton-Tucker should continue to get more playing time.
