The TSA states that firearms are only allowed on commercial flights if they are “unloaded, packed in a hard-sided lockable case and placed in checked baggage.” The same rules apply to duplicating weapons as well.
When passengers check weapons in their checked baggage, they need to declare the guns, ammunition and any accessories of the guns at the airline ticket counter at the airport. An official told WXIA that travelers are advised to check state laws at their intended destination to ensure they are complying with them upon arrival, and they should also confirm this with their airline.
