In planning and building for Singapore’s future, Mr Lee said major projects were progressing, including Changi Airport Terminal 5 with tuas port.
“Recently, another Eleven MRT stations on Thomson East Coast Line (TEL) open.When fully completed by 2025, TEL will serve one million commuters a day, linking residents in the east to the north-south corridor,” the prime minister said.
On housing, the government has also been grappling with build-to-order (BTO) construction delays caused by COVID-19.
“We are sparing no effort to build more HDB flats and make public housing affordable and accessible to Singaporeans, especially couples who are just getting married,” said Mr Lee, noting that HDB will launch another 23,000 new flats by 2023 .
“We will maintain this high cadence to meet the strong demand for housing and expect to build up to 100,000 new BTO apartments from 2021 to 2025,” he added.
Singapore has also made progress “towards a more inclusive society”, Mr Lee said, giving examples 2030 Empowerment Master Plan This will help people with disabilities find work and live independently.
He also emphasized Repeal Section 377A of the Penal CodeCriminalize homosexual behavior.
“This is a long-standing and thorny issue with strong views on both sides,” Mr Lee said.
“But I’m encouraged that Singaporeans have responded with restraint and supported our balanced approach of decriminalizing male homosexuality while protecting marriage, which is defined as a union between a man and a woman, from being challenged in court. ”
