Ravichandran Ashwin reveals his favourite second from Adam Zampa’s Mankad try in BBL

Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has finally broken his silence on Adam Zampa’s Mankad attempt in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL). The outside spinner revealed he liked the Melbourne Star spinner’s cold stare at the batsman after the incident.

The incident happened in the 20th inning of the Melbourne Renegades when Zampa attempted a mancard attack on Tom Rodgers. The batsman was not called out by the third umpire because the bowler’s arm had crossed the vertical line. Zampa made the move without passing the ball.

“My favorite part of the whole incident was Adam Zampa’s stare after running out of non-strikers. It’s similar to The Undertaker’s stare in World Wrestling Federation. He didn’t even say a word to the batter. The batter was silent too Standing on the ground, not knowing whether to be out or not.”

He added:

“People will talk about the legality of the sack. He’s done his move or something. But you see, he’s about to throw the ball and the non-striker has started running. The rules are clear, as soon as the bowler makes a shot, you Can run anywhere because once he gets his shot, he can’t run out again. Anyway, I like Zampa’s cold stare. It sends a strong message.”

For the uninitiated, Ashwin is known for running out of Jos Butler in the 2019 IPL with too many backs. The duo now play for the same team in the Championship.

Ravichandran Ashwin criticizes David Hussey’s comments on Adam Zampa’s attempt at Mankad

Ashwin also criticized David Hussey’s post-match comments regarding the withdrawal of Adam Zampa’s Mankad appeal.

He said:

“David Hussey said in an interview in the second inning that even if the umpires have issued an appeal, they will withdraw the appeal. I don’t believe what he said because if you want to withdraw the appeal, you don’t have to take it to the third umpire .”

Interestingly, Zampa was bought by RR for INR 1.5 lakh in the IPL 2023 auction. The leg spinner was unsold last year after he withdrew midway through the 2021 IPL due to personal reasons.

Zampa has played 14 IPL matches so far with 21 wickets at an economy rate of 7.73.in Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal.
