LeBron James has done just about everything in basketball. He is an Olympic gold medalist, four-time regular season and NBA Finals MVP and four-time championship.
He surpassed Magic Johnson in career assists and will replace Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the all-time scoring leader. However, “King James” has set a goal above all others, which he will strive to achieve before retiring.
In an interview with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James reiterated the most important goal he must achieve before calling it a career:
“I need to be on the field with my boys, I have to be on the field with Bronny. I’d love to do the whole Ken Griffey Sr.-Jr. That would be ideal for sure. To be with him, to spend the whole year To be in the same uniform as him or against him, that would be icing on the cake.”
Last season, LeBron James had vowed to play for any team that could draft his son Bronny James. By then, he asserts, it will not be a question of money, but a dream come true.
Bronny James is still a senior at Sierra Canyon and will be eligible for the 2024 NBA Draft. Barring another deal, James Jr.’s entry into the pros will coincide with the 18-time All-Star’s final year with the Lakers.
‘King James’ signs two-year, $97.1 million extension with Los Angeles Lakers in the offseason. He has a player option in his second year. If he opts into the final year of his contract, he’ll be in the best position to play for the team that drafted Bronny James.
Los Angeles Lakers have a chance to give LeBron James a storybook by drafting Bronny James
Bronny James is easily the most followed high school basketball player on the planet. He’s not nearly as stunning as his father, but with the name on his back, he’s been put under the microscope.
Young James is expected to go the one-and-done route. If he maintains his current trajectory, he could be in the second round of the 2024 NBA draft.
Unless a team with a lottery pick bets on Bronny James, the Los Angeles Lakers still have a good chance of drafting LeBron James’ son. Los Angeles has a 2024 second-round pick and will likely do what it can to use it on the current Sierra Canyon senior roster.
but with The four-time NBA Finals MVP is already pushing to play with his son, even at a discount, Bronny James could be a first-round pick. Teams with picks 15-30 could make a splash that will be etched in basketball history.
The allure of LeBron James and Bronny James being on the same team might be hard to pass up for a team with a lottery pick.
Still, the Lakers likely won’t go down without a fight. Los Angeles might still not be a contender by then, but they’ll be a notable phenomenon. If the father and son end up joining the Lakers regardless of everything, it must be a story that even Hollywood can hardly surpass.
