House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s new rules call for more transparency, so C-SPAN sent a letter to McCarthy asking him to allow more cameras to be installed in the House.

C-SPAN also made this request before, but they rejected it. In their current letter, the network highlights the success of being able to install more cameras in the chamber to reach more people than just those speaking at dias.

The network can give the American people a deeper and more transparent understanding of how the House of Representatives, and part of the legislative branch, works. C-SPAN does not run the current camera feed. The House majority controls the feed. C-SPAN requested the ability to place some cameras in the House chamber to provide better coverage.

At some point, members of the House of Representatives may realize that increased transparency would generate more interest in Congress, which would be a good thing for American democracy and building a more informed electorate.
