JJ Watt wasn’t getting perfect free throws on the court as his Arizona Cardinals lost 38-13 to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. But the former three-time Defensive Player of the Year was given a moment Saturday night that made him cry.
In a video released by HBO, which is eyeing the Cardinals as part of the latest season of Hard Knocks, Watt was shown a video during a team meeting with messages from his peers and family.
The video begins with a message from his brother, Pittsburgh Steelers star TJ Watt, who said:
“Brother. Jej. I just want to say congratulations on retiring. You and your resilience through all the ups and downs. You ended up in the NFL and being Defensive Player of the Year and all the success you had told me. It’s possible of.”
Next up is Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. Both congratulated JJ Watt on his incredible career, while Rodgers said he can’t wait to see him inducted into the Hall of Fame. Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott also left a message for Watt:
“Congratulations on an unbelievable football career. You are an amazing player. Excited to see the next chapter of your life. Good luck bro.”
Tom Brady also appeared in the video and told JJ Watt:
“Dude. You’ve been my heart and soul for a long time. It’s an honor to share this field with you.”

JJ Watt’s brother Derek, mother Connie and father John Watt also appear in the video. Connie says:
“JJ. We had big dreams and high hopes for you before you were born. But boy, you blew those dreams out of the water by yourself. We’re so happy for you. It’s such a joy to watch You all these years.”
John went on to say:
The day I was your coach I had to be a big part of your first comeback and it’s been a pleasure to see you since. It’s a little sad to see it in your last game, but you have a lot of good things ahead of you and I look forward to what the future holds for you, Kealia and Koa. “
