Cricket Australia (CA) have withdrawn from their upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in March following their India tour. After consultation with several stakeholders, including the Australian government, CA has decided to withdraw from the triad.
In an official statement, the cricket board responded to the Taliban government’s recent decision to further restrict education and employment for women and girls.
Since taking control of Afghanistan in 2021, the council has repeatedly condemned the Taliban regime’s restrictions on women’s participation in sports.

As quoted by cricket.com.au, the CA states the following:
“CA is committed to supporting women and men in the sport around the world, including in Afghanistan, and will continue to work with the Afghanistan Cricket Board, looking forward to improving the situation for women and girls in the country. We thank the Australian Government for its commitment to this matter support.”
Afghanistan remains the only full-time member without a women’s team and will be the only full-time member without a women’s team at the inaugural Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in Benoni on Saturday. CA has also canceled a one-off test against Afghanistan in Hobart in the summer of 2021.
