A global shift to an El Niño climate pattern later this year could pave the way for the world to warm by 1.5°C for the first time in 2024, according to the Met Office.
The agency’s new model shows that current Three-year La Niña phase is due to end in March, which looks likely to lead to an El Niño later in the year.
