Aaron Gordon is having one of the best seasons of his career, and the media is starting to ask if the forward will return to the slam dunk contest. Gordon’s reaction was quite unexpected, and fans began to tease him because of it.
Gordon had a fantastic season with the Denver Nuggets. He averaged 16.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 58.8 percent from the field, including 37.6 percent from beyond the arc. With his play, some thought his All-Star debut this season would bear fruit.
When Sports Illustrated reporter Rohan Nadkarni asked him if he would return to the dunk contest, Gordon had an interesting answer.
“If I was in the All-Star Game, I’d be in the dunk contest,” Gordon said.
After his response became known, fans began sharing their reactions to his sudden unsolicited bid to make ASG. Here are some of the funniest reactions.
@LegionHoops Did he try to play like an All-Star to make it to the All-Star Game?
@LegionHoops @RohanNadkarni Well, that’s not going to happen.I’d love to see Gordon in the dunk contest again, but no, he’s not an All-Star this season
Judging by the fan reaction, it doesn’t look like Gordon will be in the dunk contest for the next few seasons. Still, the Nuggets benefited greatly from his play, making him a valuable role player.
Stephen A. Smith picks Aaron Gordon and Denver Nuggets for top team in Western Conference
aaron Gordon and western league lead nuggets (32-13) The performance this season is very good. Their performance helped start Nikola Jokic’s campaign to win his third straight MVP.
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith believes in the Nuggets. When asked which team was the best in the NBA, he chose Denver without hesitation.
“The Denver Nuggets,” Smith said. “There’s no doubting their depth, Jokic is becoming a three-time MVP, Jamal Murray is shooting 44 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3 on 18 attempts per game, obviously he’s got a bad knee. … … Aaron Gordon, I can’t say enough about the way he’s played this year.
“So, when I look at that, and then I think about the altitude, at mile high. If you have home field advantage and potentially play four games there, that could be a deadly nail.
“Also, want to send some love to coach (Mike) Malone. He’s done a fantastic job. … You can see they have a level of flattery, respect and genuine affection for him. He deserves a lot of praise”
